About me
My approach to shipping games
I’m Kevin Ahlgren Bjorvand, an indie game developer, creator, and founder. I’m intensely ambitious, highly competitive with myself, and probably more obsessed than I should be with turning ideas into things that actually exist.
I started with game development and spent years working in Unity, building and releasing my own games, creating tools for other developers, and documenting what I learned through YouTube. What interested me most was never just making games. It was figuring out how to learn difficult things quickly, solve problems independently, and consistently turn vague ideas into finished products.
That mindset has taken me far beyond game development. I’ve built Unity tools, created educational products like Smart Indie, and founded BilagPilot, a SaaS company for accounting firms that I built from the ground up. That meant teaching myself everything from software architecture and integrations to product design, sales, marketing, automation, and working directly with businesses.
I’m naturally drawn to complicated problems. I like taking something messy, understanding how it works, and designing a system that makes it simpler, faster, or more effective. I care a lot about efficiency, leverage, and continuous improvement, and I’m rarely satisfied with doing something a certain way simply because that is how everyone else does it.
I also have very little patience for passive learning. Most of what I know came from attempting things before I felt fully prepared, getting stuck, figuring them out, and raising the difficulty again. I would rather spend a month building something difficult than spend six months preparing to build it perfectly.
That philosophy is ultimately what led to Smart Indie. I had experienced firsthand how easy it is for developers to get trapped in tutorials, endless planning, oversized projects, and constant restarting. Learning to actually finish projects changed the way I approached game development, and eventually almost everything else I build.
I’m still early in what I want to accomplish. My ambitions extend far beyond any single game, company, or product. For now, I’m focused on becoming exceptionally good at building, learning, and executing, then seeing how far I can take it.
